How Does CVL Stack Up to the Competition?
Elevating youth volleyball through accessible, high-performance training.
Involvement = Quality Time Together
Rather than just sitting on the sidelines watching someone else train your child, you get an opportunity to build a relationship with them and strengthen your bond together in a sport you both love. Passionate parents receive professional training to deliver elite skills development.
More Training = Better Players
The more time you spend developing your skills, the better player you become and volleyball players only get better through more reps and more touches. Our sessions are 2 hours long instead of just 1.25-1.5 hrs, and our seasons run for 14 weeks rather that just your typical 10 weeks. Finally, we run 2 team sessions a week as well as third session focused on skill development. Basically, each athlete receives more than twice as much training through CVL compared to other sports programs!
Dedicated Coaches = Stability
There are 3-5 coaches per team that provided consistent training and stability to the team environment. You don't have to worry about teenage coaches that call in sick whenever they have something more interesting than coaching come up on their scedule.
Local Gyms = Less Travel
We book local gyms within your community so that you don't have to travel far or waste time in traffic. Bad weather won't affect you when you only have to travel within your area.
Professional Team Photos = Stars
Come out to our Team Photo Shoot to get professional individual and group photos done that will make your child remember the season and their teammates forever!
Gameplay = Putting Skills to the Test
Every session includes skill training to help achieve team goals but they also include gameplay where everyone gets to put those skills to the test. These games are what help athletes understand why they trtain so hard. Up until the age of 15, we also follow Alberta's Fair Play rules where everyone on the team is assured of getting equal playing time. At 16+, playing time is then earned and allocated based on the athletes effort, commitment in practice and positional skill level.
GAMMA Teams = Affordable Options
Unlike other programs, CVL offers the GAMMA Travel Teams as a more affordable option to expensive club volleyball programs. We will be practicing like a club program and competing in tournaments against other club teams of similar age and skill level. The only difference compared to club teams is the reduced cost because we won't be attending the Volleyball Alberta tournaments, Provincials or Nationals. these tournaments have a high cost of attendance including long-distance travel and multi-overnight stays. By competing within our local region we can have the competitive fun at a much lower cost!
Seasons vs Sessions = Progression
At CVL, we run our programs like seasons with fixed teams, dedicated coaches, rigorous training competitive games against other teams, seasonal rankings and a tornament at the end to crown a winner. This gives your child an opportunity to be part of something that they feel proud to support and play for. Show your team pride and know that everyone else on your team is 100% committed as well to your success!
Dedicated Teams = Identity
When you spend a lot of quality time together as a team, you learn to support and lift others up, You also get to experience what it feels like when your teammates congratulate you on your efforts and success! Develop bonds that go beyond the court and grow into the community.
Recognition for your Achievements
At CVL, we love to support our athletes progress by recognizing their significant levels of achievements for every program. Whether it is being able to consistantly serve the ball overhand or be able to successfully Dolphin Dive, our Coaches love to reward and recognize all of the athletes who successfully pass each training milestone. No other program measures and rewards volleyball players like this...only CVL!

Practices and games are held weekly at the same location at various local middle and high school gymnasiums, church gyms or community centers within the district that have the appropriate gym space required. Each session consists of 60-75 minutes of practice time and then a game against another team in your division. Each session you play against another team that will determine your division ranking. A final tournament is played at the end of each season to determine the division winners. Specific locations and times are assigned after team formation based on division and amount of teams.
For GAMMA Travel teams, we compete against internal teams on a weekly basis but strive to play in monthly regional tournaments depending on what opportunities are presented.
Players must bring indoor non-marking court shoes, knee pads, and a reusable water bottle to every session. The league provides all volleyballs, nets, and specialized training equipment.
Yes, player safety and training are our top priorities! All volunteer coaches must pass a comprehensive police background check and complete a brief online safety and coaching fundamentals course before the season begins. Coaches will have access to prepared training programs as well as professional coaching clinics. Each team will have an official Head Coach and 2 official Assistant Coaches that will lead the practices and games, but can have any number of unofficial Assistant Coaches that help with running the various drills and exercises. Official Coaches receive CVL Coaches gear as well, as a way of thanking them for their time and commitment!
Our league welcomes players of various age groups. Teams are typically organized by age divisions to ensure competitive balance and appropriate skill development. Please reviewthe League signup page for specific age categories available for the upcoming seasons.
For the GAMMA travel teams, the age groups are also broken down further into boys and girls groups. This allows us to play in specific boys or girls tournaments that are appropriate competition levels for each team.
The registration fee covers your participation in the league for the entire season, including all practices, games, tornament fees and access to our facilities. The only additional cost would be the $50 jersey replacement fee if a uniform is lost or damaged. All other equipment and training materials are provided by the league. Any travel costs, food or additional clothing or equipment is not included in the registration fees and will be the responsibility of the player themselves.
Team assignments are made during the team formation process after registration closes. Requests to switch teams or divisions must be submitted in writing and are reviewed on a case-by-case basis. We prioritize team stability and competitive balance when considering any changes. Please contact the league office to discuss your specific situation or desire to be paired with friends. We will do our best to accomodate your requests.
We understand that life happens! While regular attendance is encouraged for skill development and team building, occasional absences are acceptable. If your child will miss a session, please notify your coach as soon as possible. Extended absences may affect team dynamics and individual skill progression, so we recommend discussing any concerns with your coach. Attending the weekly training clinics is another way to get additional reps in to help you continue progressing.
We believe in making volleyball accessible to all families in our community. Limited scholarship opportunities and financial assistance may be available based on need. Please reach out to the league office to inquire about assistance programs and discuss your individual circumstances. We're here to help ensure cost isn't a barrier to participation.
